TAV with local support hosted the touristic visit of Macedonia by 5 influential Turkish bloggers, who have reach of more than 1 million users on social media. The aim is to attract more Turkish tourists in Macedonia

TAV Macedonia, with the local support, has brought 5 influential Turkish bloggers on a 4 day touristic visit of Macedonia, in order to show them the beauties of the country as a travel destination, and attract more Turkish tourists in Macedonia.

The 5 popular influential bloggers, known among Turkish social media users by the names: ,,yoldaolmak’’,  ,,kesfetsek’’,  ,,bizevdeyokuz’’ and ,,birhayalinpesinde’’ who have a reach of more than 1 million users at Facebook and Instagram, as well as on their blogs, arrived in Macedonia on 24th of May and stayed until 28th of May.

Their tour was designed to be introductive and adventurous at the same time, covering exciting sightseeing and cultural heritage places in Skopje, Strumica, Dojran, Ohrid, Vevcani, Mavrovo, Debar, Bitola. It includes sites and activities such as: Macedonian Ethno Village in Skopje, the Millennium Cross at Vodno, Matka canon, vinery tour, Stobi archeological site, Mavrovo national park, Ataturk’s house in Bitola, The museum on water in Ohrid, off road safari, and many other attractive activities appealing for the younger population.

-In fact, Turkey has been the strongest tourist source market by far for many years as per the statistics of tourist arrivals into Macedonia. However, knowing the fact that the most frequent visitors from Turkey are mostly the 3rdage tourists as well as business meeting participants from various companies of industries from Turkey, we aimed to touch the hearts of the young generation back-packers for their city breaks and weekend breaks. For this purpose, the idea behind our invitation for most followed bloggers and social media phenomenons of Turkey was to reach the internet friendly “Z Generation” of Turkey through the most clicked travel blogs and social media accounts that have over 1 million active followers. Following the 4 day visit and planned internet interactions within our guests’ internet community, we are expecting to reach some 2,5 million of potential guests in Turkey. Knowing how beautiful is Macedonia, we are also delighted to share this beauty with our young generation in Turkey and support the promotion of Macedonian tourism in one of the most important source market. Evaluating the pre-results of this event, we would like to expand these efforts into our other most important source markets as well, stated Alper Ersoy, TAV Macedonia General Manager.

As TAV Macedonia officials explain, this initiative is just one part of the overall marketing activities undertaken by Marketing Department of TAV Airports in Istanbul, which include constant promotion of Macedonian airports at the most important international aviation and tourism fairs and exhibitions, but also promotion of Macedonia as a touristic destination among world travelers.

As a result of these marketing activities of TAV, in 2016 one of the biggest European tour operators Thomas Cook started to fly at Ohrid Airport on the route Ohrid-Brussels, while at the same time last year Israeli Airline Arkia begun with charter-flights on the route Ohrid-Tel Aviv. This year, on 22nd of June, the biggest Polish tour operator Rego bis will start with charter flights from Katowice to Ohrid.

TAV Macedonia continues to mark growth of the air traffic. The first four months of 2017 are finished with 8% increase in passenger traffic at both airports, reaching 525.820 passengers. In the same period the most frequent destination at Skopje International Airport is Istanbul with 12,4% market share, including both airports - Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen.
