TAV MACEDONIA: A RISE OF 17% IN THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS AT BOTH AIRPORTS IN THE FIRST 9 MONTHS

TAV MACEDONIA: A RISE OF 17% IN THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS AT BOTH AIRPORTS IN THE FIRST 9 MONTHS

Additionally, TAV informs that during this month, the company is hosting two big Polish tour-operators on their visit of Macedonia, in order to convince them to start with flights from Ohrid Airport

In the first 9 months of 2016, 17% more passengers have been carried at both Macedonian airports – Skopje Alexander the Great and Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle, compared to the same period last year. The total number of passengers reached 1.382.714, stated TAV Macedonia, the airport management company.

In the same time period, from January until September 2016, the number of take-offs and landings at both Macedonian airfields has also been increased by 11%, to total of 13.009 flights.

-The 17% growth of the number of passengers in the first 9 months of this year shows that the strategy for expansion of our route network to more and different destinations has been confirmed as successful engine for boosting the trips from and to Macedonian airports. Therefore, our main efforts as a management, strongly supported by TAV Airports Marketing Department, and by the Government as our partner, will stay focused on attracting new airlines, opening new destinations and increasing the number of frequencies to the existing routes, in order to generate bigger traffic. With the new destinations to be opened from Skopje Airport – Hanover at the end of this month, and Doha at the beginning of 2017, we expect further air traffic growth that will make our airports even more attractive and visible on the regional level for the global airlines and tour-operators, stated Zoran Krstevski, TAV Macedonia General Manager

As part of these marketing activities that are permanently undertaken by the airport management company, TAV informs that during this month the company is hosting Polish tour-operators on their visit of Macedonia.

-On invitation of TAV Airports, two big Polish tour operators famous by their round-trips travel tours across whole Europe will visit Macedonia and Ohrid, meeting high Government officials and the relevant local authorities. The goal is to convince them to establish the first air-connection between Poland and Macedonia, with charter flights to Ohrid St. Paul the Apostle Airport from Warsaw and Katowice in 2017 summer season, explains the company operating Skopje and Ohrid airports.

Recently, French tour operators visited Macedonia and Ohrid, in order to experience Ohrid Lake beauties and touristic potential and establish charter-flights to Ohrid Airport. TAV Airports is in communication with other tour operators from Germany, Israel, Greece, Russia and Scandinavia, with the same reason - to boost flights and increase the traffic at Ohrid Airport.

According to TAV Macedonia’s statistics, in January-September period, most frequent destination from Skopje Airport is Istanbul (both airports Ataturk & Sabiha Gokcen), followed by Zurich, Vienna, Basel-Mulhouse, Malmo and London-Luton.

Regarding airlines share in passenger traffic, WizzAir transported the largest number of passengers in the first 9 months with 53,5% market share, followed by Turkish Airlines with 8,7%, Austrian Airlines with 6,4%, Germania Flug with 5,9% and Pegasus Airlines with 4,5% market share.

Cargo traffic from Skopje Airport also experienced significant growth of 16,6% in the first 9 months, reaching 2.345 tons, mostly due to the increased cargo-flights carrying goods for the export companies.
